do1o is an app where two people build one small habit together for ten days, with a photo each day. This page says what we collect to make that work, who can see it, and how long we keep it. do1o is run by Mint & Violet LLC. Questions: [email protected].
The short version
- Your photos are seen only by you and the person you are doing that do1o with.
- Your photos stay with your do1os, so you can look back at them, until you delete your account.
- We do not sell anything about you, and there are no ads.
- You can delete your account, and everything personal with it, from inside the app.
What we collect
- Your phone number, to sign you in with a text message code.
- Your first name, a photo of you if you add one, your time zone, and when you like to be reminded.
- Your proof: the photo or short video you take each day, any few words you send with it, and how many times you tapped the counter.
- Your messages: what you write to someone in the app.
- What you do in the app: the habits you start and make, when you check in, when you open the app and whether a notification brought you there, and how you answer your partner (a thumbs up, a short note, a reaction, a nudge).
- A notification address for your phone, if you turn notifications on.
- Reports you send us about a photo or a person, and who you have blocked.
- What you tell us in "Feedback", along with the app's version, the kind of phone and its system, and your text size, so we can understand what you saw.
When you invite someone by phone number, we do not keep their number. We turn it into a scrambled code that only lets us recognize them if they sign up, and we keep the first name you typed for them. If you pick them from your contacts, the app receives only the one contact you chose.
Seeing who you know on do1o. Only if you ask for it ("See who you know on do1o", then "Look in my contacts"), the app reads the phone numbers in your contacts and sends them to us to compare with the numbers people sign in with. We send back only the people who are on do1o: their first name, username, and color. We do not keep the numbers, we do not write them to our logs, and nobody is told that you looked. We keep only that you looked and when, for one day, so it cannot be done too often. Your phone's settings can take the permission back at any time. A phone number you type in "Find a friend" is checked the same way, on its own, and is not kept either.
The camera, and the microphone if you record a video with sound, are used only while you are taking your proof. A photo of yourself may come from your phone's photo library, and so may a screenshot you choose to send as your proof; either way we receive only the picture you pick.
Who can see what
- Your proof and its words: you and the person in that do1o. Nobody else.
- Your messages: you and the person you wrote to. Nobody else. You can only write to people you have done a do1o with or invited.
- Your first name and your photo: people you have done a do1o with.
- Your numbers and medals: people you have done a do1o with can see how many do1os you have finished, your days in a row, which types of habit you have finished one in, and the medals you have earned. Not your history, and never your photos.
- What you are doing right now: people you have done a do1o with can see the habit and which day you are on, never your photos. Either person in a do1o can hide it from friends.
- That you use do1o: someone who has your phone number, and asks to see who they know on do1o or types it in "Find a friend", sees your first name, username, and color, and can send you a friend request. You can turn this off in Settings: "People who have my number can find me". Someone you blocked, or who blocked you, never finds you this way.
- An invite link: anyone who has the link sees your first name and the habit, so they know who is asking.
- Your answer to an invite: the person who invited you is told when you say yes. If you say "not now", they are told which of the few reasons you tapped. There is nothing to type.
- Us: the people who run do1o can reach what is stored in order to keep it working, to look at something that was reported, and to answer you. We do not look at photos otherwise.
How long we keep things
- Photos and videos are kept, with any words sent with them, so the people in a do1o can look back at it. They are removed when the person who sent them deletes their account. If we ever start removing older ones, we will say so on this page and in the app before we do.
- A photo that was reported is kept until a person has looked at the report.
- Messages are kept until either of you deletes your account, or until the one who sent a message deletes it. A message that was changed keeps only its latest words.
- That a day was done (not the photo) is kept so your do1os and your days in a row stay true.
- Sent notifications are removed after 30 days.
Deleting your account
In the app: You, the gear, Delete my account. It happens at once and cannot be undone. Your name, your photo, every proof you sent and its words, every message you sent or got, notes you wrote, habits you made, and your numbers are removed, along with your sign-in. Anything you are doing with someone ends for both of you.
People you did a do1o with keep their own history of it. Where your name was, they see "Former member".
A report you sent, or something you told us, is kept so it can still be looked at, no longer linked to you.
Who helps us run do1o
We use a small number of services, and they receive only what they need:
- Supabase stores the app's data and photos and handles sign-in. It is hosted in the United States.
- Twilio sends the text message with your sign-in code, so it receives your phone number.
- Expo, and through it Apple or Google, deliver notifications. They receive the notification's words and your phone's notification address. A note your partner wrote is never put in a notification.
- Cloudflare serves this website.
If we add crash reports or usage statistics, this page will say which service and what it receives before it is switched on.
Children
do1o is for people aged 13 and over. If you believe a child under 13 is using it, write to us and we will remove the account.
Your choices
You can change your name and photo, turn notifications off, choose whether people who have your number can find you, hide a do1o from friends, block someone, and delete your account, all in the app. For anything else, including a copy of what we hold about you, write to [email protected]. Depending on where you live, the law may give you further rights over your information; we will honor them wherever you are.
Changes
If we change what this page says in a way that matters, we will say so here before it takes effect and, where we can, in the app.
